The “Big” 3+
Pack
ULA Circuit
Bought it new for this trip. I have tried it out on a
couple of day hikes with weight in it, and it has carried well so far.
Tent
GoLite Imogene II
My first trip out with this I spent a good part of the
night riding out a thunderstorm and the tent did well. Not a truly
free-standing tent in my opinion. You need to stake it out to truly get a
good pitch.
Sleeping Bag
Marmot Sawtooth 15V or EMS Mountain Lite 20°
Not sure which bag I am going to use yet. The EMS is
lighter and packs down a little more, but I bought the Marmot because I spent
a few cold nights up at 10,000' in the EMS.
Sleeping Pad
Big Agnes Air Core (66”)
I love this pad. I will never go back to a self-inflating
type again. I may switch this out for a lighter one, if I can get it for a
good price.
Hiking Poles
Black Diamond
I really like the flip locks. I never have a problem with
them slipping and shortening up on me.
Cooking &
Hydration
Stove
MSR Pocket Rocket, canister & mini Bic lighter (2)
I have played around with alcohol stoves, but I cannot bring
myself to switch yet. I guess I am a little too impatient when I want my
food. Also with the drought in the Sierras right now, I am guessing there may
be some fire restrictions which did not allow for the use of alcohol stoves last
summer
Pot
Brunton IB Cook Set (800 ml only)
Nice and light. A good score from Walmart a few years ago.
Silverware
Light My Fire Titanium Spork
I really like it. I use one for my lunch at work every day.
Bowl
Glade screw top – medium
Trying to decide if I will take this or not. I like it, because
it will keep my pot clean, but not sure if I will have the space for it
Pot Cozy
Homemade
Made from windshield sunscreen reflector material
Water Bottles
Smart Water 1L (2)
Very light. Fit into the side pockets well.
Hydration Bladders
Platypus 2L, 1L
Like having the ability to carry extra water if I need it,
as well as extra water in camp.
Purification
Saywer Mini
Have not tried it yet (got it free with the Circuit). I
have used the regular Saywer and like the ease and lite weight of it this
system
Bear Canister
Backpackers Cache
Might switch to the smaller Bear Vault BV450, if I can fit
enough food into it for after MTR.
Miscellaneous

Nikon AW100
Tripod
REI
Works both horizontally and vertically

Victornox Huntsman Boy Scout version

Maybe overkill, but it is a good old friend, so I have to
bring it along.
Compass
Sunto M-3D
Just in case
MP3
Sansa 4G
To help me get over those passes, when I might need to let

First Aid
Homemade
Packed inside a Loksak bag.
Headlamp
Black Diamond Spot
Trail Guide
Erik the Black’s JMT Trail Guide
I like the format of this guide. It is printed on sturdy
paper, but still lite weight. I may add a couple of pages of Postholer or Tom
Harrison's maps to a couple of areas that I would like to check out.
Journal
MoleSkine, plain, large
A little heavy, but I really like to journals on trips, so
it is worth the weight from my perspective.
Towel
MSR Pack towel
TP kit
Dried Baby wipes and hand sanitizer. Tent peg for trowel
Required to carry out. Ohh the fun!

Check out my Post Trail gear Review HERE
What's you're weigh in with food and without food? I have a heck of a time dropping below 30 pounds even for overnighters. Good luck on your trip. Can SPOT post to your blog?
ReplyDeleteDennis, I have not weighed everything together yet. I think is is about 17 lbs so far. I hope to to try cut it down to 15 before I leave. As far as posting SPOT points I am not sure. I think I can link to SPOTs tracking page through my blog. I have not activated it yet, so I have not much investigating about it as of yet. Want to activate it in the next month or so, to give it some trial runs before heading to the JMT.
Deletethe bull frog sunscreen /repellent. Any good? or sepreat ones better?
